Reisen Safety Seminar on 11th and 12th October 2008 in Schwäbisch Hall EDTY with John Mariani

Dear Members,

"Safe High Performance Flying" is practically the motto of your Malibu-Mirage Interest Group. Which is one reason we are organizing a special safety seminar for the first time this October.

This will take place on 11th and 12th October 2008, arriving Friday, 10th October 2008. Destination airport: Adolf Würth Airport Schwäbisch Hall EDTY.

The Guest Speaker will be the American PA46 specialist JOHN MARIANI, who played an important engineering role in the original development of the Malibu. In aviation circles, especially in the United States, John is regarded as something of an aviation safety expert and guru.

We will be providing a simultaneous interpretation into German.

The shocking increase in the number of tragic accidents involving the PA46 is occasion enough to organize this meeting. Anyone who has had a recent look at his insurance policy and premium will know what the situation is.

Indeed, there have been a wide range of accidents:

Paderborn 2001 "Fatal In-Flight Break-Up"
Africa 2002 "Structural Overload?!"
Jersey 2003 "Storm Flight"
Samedan 2004 "Spiral of Death"
Mallorca 2005 "Collision on the Ground"
Elba 2006 "Fatal stalling on return after engine trouble"

More than 30 people have tragically lost their lives. At least the pilot and passengers survived the accident on Wangerooge in 2007, but they were seriously injured.

And when there were no injuries there were accidents costing millions in material damage. For example, resulting from accidents in 2006 and 2007 in:

Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden , Augsburg, Linz, Budapest , Dresden and Coburg.

We believe that all of us must face up to our responsibilities. All of us means maintenance operators, owners and pilots.

The statistics are quite clear: some 10% of all PA46s worldwide have been destroyed in over 100 tragic, sometimes avoidable, accidents.

The effects and consequences of these accidents are as wide-raging as are their reasons. One consequence could be to pay even more attention to the subject ACTIVE SAFETY. MMIG46’s contribution at this point is the SAFETY SEMINAR.

We are proud to announce that the seminar will be held under the auspices of Prof. Reinhold Würth. We are very grateful to him for his support.

Professor Würth is a passionate aviator and holds a professional pilot’s license (ATPL) and still flies all the planes available in the Würth Group including the Citation and Falcon. The expansion of the Würth Group has been Prof. Reinhold Würth’s life work and constitutes one of Germany’s great economic success stories. Under his leadership the Würth screw factories grew into the international market leader in fastenings and assembly technology. Today (2008) the Würth Group has over 250 sites in Germany and 400 active sales companies and 60,000 employees in 86 countries.

The Schwäbisch Hall Building Society has also agreed to support our event.

An interesting program is also being prepared for the ladies.

As always, we will be organizing excellent accommodation and food.

Please make a note of the dates. We will be sending you more detailed information in the next few weeks.

Best wishes

As always, – Safe flying…..

On behalf of the committee

Wilhelm Schröer
